Easter is the oldest festival on the Christian calendar and it celebrates the resurrection of Christ. As Easter draws near and our shops fill with Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies, I find myself thinking about the meaning of those symbols and their relevance to today.
What do bunnies and eggs have to do with Easter? Rabbits are symbols of fertility and eggs were pagan symbols of life and death, so both are linked to renewal and rebirth. In our business community, renewal and rebirth can take many forms and for some people, it can mean starting a new business venture.
In business and in life, these days we are all very busy and sometimes that can affect our mental health, as well as the mental health of those around us. Perhaps Easter is a good time to become aware of those stresses, do a health check on both our business and home lives and see how we can improve things going forward. It’s also a great time to check in with others to make sure they are OK.
Renewal and rebirth can happen in small ways. As Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
Perhaps, regardless of our religion or feelings about religion, we can all take something from the meaning of the Easter holiday.
I wish you all good mental health during this season of renewal.
