The following piece has been written by La Porchetta’s CEO, Sara Pantaleo.
La Porchetta’s motto is Eat, Live, Love — Italian!, and as Valentine’s Day approaches, I thought I’d share with you some thoughts about the Love part of our motto.
Any Italian family knows that food is an expression of love, and making and serving it is a way to share the love around. At La Porchetta, we try to give customers and staff alike a loving experience, because love is not simply romantic love. It can mean many things.
It can mean listening, forgiving, understanding, tolerating. It can mean being brave enough to tell someone what they don’t want to hear, and it can mean accepting people for who they are, and not who you’d like them to be.
I’d like to share samples of different perspectives on love, from teachers across cultures, religions and beliefs:
Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage — Lao Tzu
If you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love. — Mother Teresa
You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection. — Buddha.
You will never complete your faith until you love one another — Prophet Muhammad.
And here are a few favourite (unattributed) quotes about love that have done the rounds online:
We fall in love by chance, we stay in love by choice.
The best love is the one that makes you a better person without changing you into someone other than yourself.
We accept the love we think we deserve.
Love is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving.
Love is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.
Whether you’re a partner, a parent, a child, a friend, or a work-colleague (or most of these things), I hope these messages ring true for you. Happy Valentine’s Day!
